Whenever I pull a guide out of the rulers, I hold shift so the guide snaps nicely onto the devisions of my rulers.

But every once in a while, my vertical guide (the dotted line that indicates where the guide will come) disappears while I hold the shift key. The moment I let the shift key go, it appears.

I have absolutely no idea what is causing this, but would really like to know.

I don't see that happening in CS5, what version are you using?

I had CS2 for a few years, and last year updated to CS4. It happened in both versions. (PC running windows XP)

Strange thing is that that it comes and goes without (definable) reason. It's possible that everything works as it's supposed to, and than all of a sudden the guide-marking disappears. It's also possible that after a while, everything works normal again, even without closing and reopening PS or the document.

It also doesn't happen that often. I use guides constantly, and it happens maybe once every two or three weeks. So it's not that this is bothering me a lot, but it's making me curious ;)

I tried things like switching to the move tool before pulling out a guide, adjusting the zoom level, holding shift before/after I start to pull the guide out, ... but I just can't figure out what is causing this.

ok.

apparently it's the zoom level...

whenever I'm up to the maximum of 3200% (I know, that's a lot :) ) this problem occurs.
