Sorry for the poor Subject, but I really don't know the graphical jargon to explain my problem.

Please see my attachment. I would like to have just head, and cut the background of completely, making it transparent. I don't know whether I have to delicately cut around the edge of the head to achieve this, or whether I'm missing one of those "Make background transparent" buttons that inevitably evades my blunt eyes.

Thanks very much.

1. you can either get your pen tool and start tracing a path around the face all the way around to select the background and then delete it.

2. If you are not that familiar with the pen tool you can use the magnetic lasso tool and again select around the face and cut the background

3.in CS3 there is a new tool call quick selection tool

For steps 2 and 3 you always want to make sure you inverse the selection by Select>Inverse, that way you delete the background and not the face.

Hope it helps
:)
