Hi, my elliptical marquee tool is stuffing up. When I use it, it makes a shape like this ..

That's the shape it should be making. Have you tried painting in that circle? It should give you a fairly smooth oval. If it doesn't, make sure the box at the top called Anti-aliased is checked. Then remake your selection and see if that works.

It looks like this when you are zoomed into the selection. Make sure your document is zoomed in at 100% and if so, as OYBRO said, make sure you have the 'Anti-Aliased' box checked off in the top bar.
