Hi all, I've been using photoshop for a number of years but im looking for a simple solution to a problem thats been bugging me for a couple of days:
Im working on a multi-layered composition with the main focal point being a couple of hand prints in the center of the image, the background is currently black but i would like to replace this with a colour image. normally i would simply use a mask but the prints are too complex to mask out well.
My question is: how can i 'bypass' this handprint layer to replace the black background with an image? any help would be appreciated.
also: this image is done with photoshop 7. Unfortunatley this is beyond my control for now.

Are the hand prints on a separate layer to the black background or are they on the same layer? If they are on different layers then just highlight the black layer in the Layers Palette and delete it.
If the hands and black are on the same layer use the Magic Wand tool with the add to selection function, it will show as a '+' at the side of the Magic Wand. Select each area that is black to get the marching ants and then delete them. |
