I'm new to photoshop but not new to photo editing. All I want to do is import an image as a layer. In other programs all I had to do was Layer>Import from file and Ta Da! it was done. I've read many tutorials and they never explain how to do this they explain how to create a new layer which I find rather easy but they never say how to open another image without starting over my project? like it's so easy it doesn't need instructions, could my photoshop be busted? I have cs3 extended and I've been trying to create a globe and I haven't been able to do so because theres no continents on it.. |

Hello,
In Photoshop, you can work with several images at a time. You don't need to start your project over.
- Just open the 2nd image
- Press [Ctrl+A] to select all
- Press [Ctrl+C] to copy the selected area
- Close the image - and your 1st document is active again
- Paste the copied image [Ctrl+V]. It appears in the document as a new layer
Importing to layer is also possible. Pull down "File > Place" > select an image > press [Enter] to confirm placing. In this case though, the imported file appears as a "smart object" - a special kind of layer. _________________ Andrei Doubrovski
