Bit of a can of worms this one: The long and the short is it depends on their expectations and to some degree their experience both in selling their work and negotiating a fee. How you intend to use it could in some cases matter, although there is a counter argument to this, especially as it is already produced artwork and not brand identity from scratch.
As for copyright, again it depends, it's something I would want to discuss with the originator of the work in a frank discussion. I would be tempted to be open with them and tell them you have not done this kind of thing before (it sounds like they aren't used to it either).
In the meantime if life doesn't catch up with me I will try and dig up some links but off the top of my head AIGA may have some links: www.aiga.org _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

You don't have to buy the copyright off them. But if they were willing and you felt you may have need for the images again in the future you could. Instead, I think what normally happens is that people buy a license to use an image for a given purpose. The price is worked out by the size of print run, size of images, duration of circulation etc. _________________ http://www.photography-art-cafe.com |
