Here is the situation. I have a photo of brake pads that were taken on a white board. I submit to a stock website. The photo was accepted. I decided to take it a step further. I took the same photo and began to color in the background a lime green. There are 4 pads. The tracing took hours. Took achieve the look I wanted it seemed that the brush tool was the way to go. There are no layers. The background is the only one. My palm hit a key and it changed the brush color. I control z'd like a mad man. I tried using the eye dropper to capture the color so I could use it in the brush. It would work, but it was off just slightly. It was not the same lime green. As I tested the colors by brushing, I noticed that it would color the white area, but then it seemed to go underneath the already painted lime green area. There are no layers. How is this possible? I've noticed that if there is a clear layer in between 2 other layers that color would show up slightly lighter on the bottom layer. What I would like to do is Pick a slightly lighter lime green and use a tool too hit the whole colored area without it painting over the pads. Should I make a duplicate layer? Anyway if I cover the painted area with a lighter color then it should be the same color in the brush. This way I can continue coloring the white area with the same color as the filled in area. _________________ I am an amature photograqpher. I think it's entirely possible that all you did was accidentally hit the letter "q" on the keyboard which converts the art to "quick mask mode". If it happens again, just hit the "q" again.
Another thing, quick mask mode opacity can be set, so if yours was set at a higher level, the lime green color would lighten dramatically. I added a screenshot below to show you how to quickly spot if you've gone into quick mask mode.
