I always work on a duplicate image (keeping the original untouched) thats image/duplicate, I then close the original and do all my ajustments on the copy.
JPEG by it's nature is a "lossy" format, whereas TIFF is normally uncompressed so if probably the best format for archiveing, although it does use more space on the hard drive.
I back up all my images as soon as I download them from my camera, they are stored on 2 hard drives, and I change the memory card in the camera for another, only deleting the images off the card when I need it to swop, this gives me another back up for a week or so, by which time I have put them on CD as well. I know it's a bit "belt and braces" approach, but a work mate lost several thousand images from a HD crash, so I'm not taking any chances. Wayne |
