Hello there, my name is Rey and I have a question about alpha channels.
I've noticed on some of the tutorials around the internet that when a copy is made of one of the channels be it the red channel , the new channel that is created will automatically be named alpha 1, but on my photoshop it will be called red copy . Do I have to name it alpha 1 or is there a setting I have to make. Thanks in advance. |

Hi there
Any time you create a new channel, or duplicate an existing one, you're creating an independent channel of information that's not name-sensitive. Generally, when you create a new channel from scratch it's called 'Alpha 1', and when you duplicate a channel it's gets named a copy of the original channel.
The name though isn't important, you can create a luminance mask and call it alpha, or create a transparancy mask and call it luminance, of course it will help you if you name your channels accordingly but it won't effect the operation of the mask.
In your case, you could duplicate the channel and then name it 'mask1' if you're building a mask, that'll help you keep track of what it's doing there later on in your project.
Hope this helps _________________ Matt
