From what I see, you have three pictures: The soldier, the three wise men, and the barbed wire.
Is that correct?
I see what you mean between the soldier and the wise men. There is an easier way to do it. Put a blank mask on the wise men, and with the mask selected, grab your gradient tool (make sure the colors on it are black and white) and hold shift and click at the top of the wise men and drag down a little bit. That will evenly fade the wise men down. That may not be the effect you're going for though. It might look better to do an uneven fade with different sized soft brushes.
If the barbed wire is on a separate layer, you may want to add a dark inner glow to get rid of the light colored edges. Or you can lock transparent pixels on the barbed wire layer and color over the whole thing to make it one solid even color.
