see how this pic has everything black and white but the bike and the rider... i was wondering how this was done.. how can you choose what you want in color and what you want in black and white.. please help!!!

Wow thats some serious braking there! Anyway back to the photo, theres lots of ways of doing this, the easiest is probably duplicate your image (allways work on a dup then if it goes wrong you have the original to fall back on) go to image/ajustments/desaturate to make it black and white, now click on the history brush and carefully paint the coloured bits back in, it's that simple
There are other ways but thats about the easiest and quickest. Wayne

You could also try this for better B&W:
Go to you channels tab, and select each of the RGB channels individually - this will give much more interesting, exiting and contrasty B&W's. If you find one you are happy with, hit CTRL+A (select all), CTRL+C (copy), go back to your layers, and hit CTRL+V (paste).
Now you have a B&W on top of a colour image. You can now wither erase everyting, on the B&W, and paint back with the history brush, or you could apply an alpha mask directly to the B&W layer.

Another very easy way is to simply have black as your foreground color and set the brush to COLOR MODE. Paint over anything thing you want to be BW.
