shortcuts not working

sorta new to the photoshop scene. im tryin to get into the habit of using the shortcut keys, but they wont work. i dont know if photoshop is not responding to me pressing ctrl/alt or wut. help me please

btw, the shortcuts in preference are defaulted, so thats not it. thanks to anyone who can help me out.

legit version? I read somewhere about shortcut keys not working on some illegal copies of Photoshop for Windoze.
