I have this illustration of a crow where I need to remove everything thats black, so I can put it on a transparent background. Unfortunately, its near impossible to use the lasso tool or the eraser. Does anyone have any idea how I can do this?

Looks like a job for the Pen tool and the human eye.

That would take ages!!
Easiest, quick and simple way -
Open the image.
1.Go to the 'image' menu top of screen (next to file ect)
2.Adjustments
3.Invert (Ctrl + I)
and its done!!!

Would work if the OP was wanting a black line drawing on white. However, he's wanting to extract the crow and place it on a transparent layer. Not as easy as just inverting it.
The best I could come up with was to create a new layer. Go to the channels pallet and Ctrl+click on the RGB Channel. Go back to the layers pallet and Alt+Backspace 2 or 3 times to fill the selection with the color of your choosing. You'll lose the coloration around the eye this way. But that can be remedied by cutting and pasting the eye.
I'm no pro, but this produced as good a result as I think you'll get with that image.
