Hello everyone,
Ok I am making a directory ad in illustrator. I want to fancy one peice, a sheild, up in photoshop (metal texture, engraved text) and I need the outside of the sheild to stay transparent.
I need the work in high res for printing so I create in photoshop as 300DPi and then drag my vector sheild from Illustrator into the new artboard in photoshop. I work the magic and do the metal and text.
NOW IS MY PROBLEM -
I save the sheild as a PSD but when I open it up in illustrator its really small and if I resize it to be proportional with the rest of the ad then it gets all yucky looking.
<pulls hair out>
What is the proper way to make this transfer?
Should I be creating in photoshop at 300DPI?
and if I create a 79 or so DPI then when I open in illustrator its to big and I have the same problem sizing it down.
Can someone please give me some direction?
Thank you very much in advance |

That is your problem. If you drag ‘n drop into an existing PS file, the AI will reduce in size to fit in the PS canvas.
Either make a new 300 ppi PS file, at the physical dimensions you wanted, prior to pasting your AI vector art. Or copy your AI vector art first, then open a new PS file (based on Clipboard) at 300 ppi and paste. |

Making my artboard in photoshop the same size as my canvas in illustrator worked.
The only problem I am having now is that when I pull the sheild into illustrator the edges are a little flayed. It's not that big of a deal since I can do a clip mask with a slightly smaller sheild in illustrator and then give it a stroke. But do you have any suggestions about keeping the edges from flaying??
Thanks |

Yes. Go File>Place to import artwork from PS to AI. |
