|
|
i have a pretty smokin' machine which handles Photoshop like butter. It has Dual Pentium 4's, 2 gigs of ram, and a quadro fx 1400 PCI-express video card. All my drives are serial ATA drives. I have optimized the system by changing the paging file sizes, system performance, and disabling all the background services i dont need.
I have used photoshop since v2. So i know it always takes a little time to launch. But the latest CS2 seems rediculously looong. i have a few filters installed but the launch sequence hangs during the "Reading Preferences" part. Fonts and plugins zip right by. It takes a good minute or two to open photoshop, just about ALL the time is during the reading preferences part. Is this typical? Or is there something i can do to speed up the "reading preferences" process.
it may not sound like a big issue, but i do a lot of 3D design. So when it comes to texturing, i have to open and close photoshop all day long. You'd be surprised at how much time in a day is spent just opening photoshop.
thanks for any tips or help! _________________ Look for the light at the end of the tunnel and don't be discouraged if its the light of an oncoming train. |

Why?
I seldom close apps I use throughout the day.
Try trashing your prefs: Hold down Shift+Alt+Control as you launch Photoshop. You'll get a dialog to delete current settings. |

cbadland,
i hear ya. i actually don't have the most efficient workflow since i handle much of our projects myslef. I often have a video editor, photoshop, and maya running at the same time. Sometimes it slows me down having them all running since they are all resource hogs. i do try to keep open what i use throughout the day unless i am having performance issues.
i suppose i was more curious if CS2 should be taking a minute or two to open. No biggie. I have cleared the preferences which didnt do much to speed it up. I sure do appreciate the help! _________________ Look for the light at the end of the tunnel and don't be discouraged if its the light of an oncoming train. |

Still, it shouldn't take that long. A warm launch of PS-CS2 for me (machine is on, Photoshop has been launched then closed) is right around five or six seconds. A cold launch runs around 20 seconds (Dual 2 GHz G5, 2GB RAM). |

hmmm. whats the speed of your drives? Pentium 4? great. But I am currently running dual AMD, 4HD 7,200RPM 2GB...totaling over 500GB of storage. I am currently running cs2 right now.
My question to you is. IS your CPU ran as a server. Lots of read & writing at one time?
Don't get me wrong P4 is great but my pref. is to go with AMD.
Do you have a good case with many fans? |

Aside from a few interesting features 7 still out performs CS2 on my machine, as far as achieving what I want the program to achieve for me.
Tried some similiar tasks in CS2 and my system went to pooh.
I even like CS better than 2. |
