hay, how would i make a nav bar like the one in this design?

Go to www.good-tutorials.com or www.pixel2life.com and search for "navigation bar" .. the links have images, so you will get what you want eventually.

It's a rounded rectangle cut in half with a gradient overlay.

i just do a rectangle with the rectangular marquee tool. Then i smooth it. Select>modify>smooth

Ok. Not a problem.

Get your rounded rectangle tool, and make one the size you want. It would be a good idea to size it according to the type size you want to use.

Select the top half of it with the rectangular marquee tool. It doesn't have to be exactly in half but pretty close.

Then hit the "Add a Mask" button at the bottom of the layers pallette. Looks like a rectangle with a circle in it.

Then click "Add a Layer Style" at the bottom of the layers pallette. (To the left of add a mask.) Select Gradient overlay. Now, select the colors you want.

That's pretty much it. There's a few things different in the example you posted, but I don't want to explain them unless you want me too. (Too much typing.) So try out what I told you and if you don't like the outcome or you have questions, come back and we'll make it look better.
