I've been using a Wacom Intuos3 for a few years and couldn't do without now. The Intuos4 recently came out, but I have no plans to upgrade. The the 3 is fine for image retouching.
It is certainly a good tablet. Whether it is affordable depends on your circumstances.

hm, i may have to check it out. i am kind of a newb when it comes to photoshop or corel though. but very good with art, so i figured it'd be something to invest in.
