Hello
I do not work in the creative fields professionally, but for many years I have kept a sketch book and draw just about daily. I've been drawing about 50/50 people and landscapes, along with some monsters and other random scenes.
After starting to watch some anime with my kids I started practicing doing people in that style. I've always liked doing pointillism so recently I've been working on some drawings that combine the manga style with pointillism to good effect.
I took one drawing I completed, scanned it and have been working on coloring it and finishing it in PhotoShop. This is the first time I've made use of PhotoShop for anything besides editing photos for my wife (she does wedding photography professionally).
Is working from scanned inked drawings the best way to use PhotoShop for creating artworks?
Pointillism seems hard to work with in PS because first, the method for selecting all the white and deleting it so you've just got the drawing on a transparent background misses a lot of the points, no surprise there. I'd like to create images without the thick black lines, too. Is there a tutorial around for creating that sort of art? I found an image of a mermaid reaching up to the surface with her reflection showing from the surface down (it was at deviantart but I don't remember who made it or what it was called. I'd like to create something like that with the awesome textures.
Thanks for any tips you might offer in advance!!
