well for starters scanning pencils is never as effective as inks

i would probably use poster edges...that sometimes can fix it

Trace it with the pen tool? Probably be pretty easy with that drawing. It would look cool too.

well if u wont ink it before scanning
just do a image>adjustements>brightness>contrast

I played around with this image for a little bit. Pen tool looks like the best bet. Trying to adjust the image contrast or running filters, ect. just makes all the smudges/creases really pop out. Should be really simple to trace with the pen tool.

That looks really good.....I'm going to ink it, then scan it again. Thank you gecko....and everybody else who gave me some very useful tips. I'll make another attempt at it and post when I'm done.
P.S. Gecko, what exactly did you do to the drawing to get it like that?
