Long exposure - don't hate, it's unproductive. Welcome to the forum Boathouse.

The first one isnt much of a trick. Written on a mirror in lipstick or soap. Picture taken in black and white.

Hmm...not much of a photographer myself.

Try writing name on mirror with a bar of soap or lipstick or chapstick...something like that. Turn lights off in room, place camera below mirror, looking up at it from an angle so that when it takes the picture it wont include itself in the photo. The flash should highlight the writing well. I would also think it work well in a large room, so the flash doesn't light everything around it.

I think the way he did it was with the long exposure technique. Set the shutter speed to 15 seconds, or longer (I know it sounds like a long time). set a self timer and run in front of the camera with a LED flash light and start writting your name in the air with the flashlight. The long expose time will capture the path of the flashlight.
