I recently installed the trial version of CS2 and upon the end of the trial and uninstalling it has removed the photoshop icon that i normally see when browsing through my files, and replaced it with a generic icon (attached).

I reinstalled CS2 and it came back but then disappeard after i removed it again.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? It's a small problem yet amazingly frustrating!

I saw something like this mentioned over the Adobe Support Photoshop Windows forum. (I'm a Mac user, so can't be of much help.) Check over there, and if you find an answer, please post back. Good luck.

In XP go to control panel, folder options, file types, select jpeg (or what ever) click on advanced, and you'll have the change icon option, if I remember correctly, theres a default or something similar there. Wayne

thanks for your advice - after a couple of hours of searching and installing/uninstalling the trial version of CS2 i've somehow managed to fix it!

i did try the file types option (got windows 2k) but i was never able to select the advanced option. also tried to select the 'open with' option but it would never let me select just CS, only CS2.

The icons only ever appeared when CS2 was installed so i tried to find the file or folder which was doing this. Unfortunately after 2 attempts no luck but then i uninstalled it for the 3rd time, opened a gif - to which it asked me to find the location of photoshop, selected photoshop CS and hey presto it works!
