Hopefully, someone out there can help me with this. I don't even have the correct terminology to describe the problem, so I haven't had much luck searching the web for answers.

Situation: an underexposed digital photograph is taken. The levels are adjusted in Photoshop, to correct the exposure and then converted to CMYK for printing. The image looks fine on screen, but prints horribly -- the print contains "mottled" colors. By "mottled" I mean splotchy, incomplete colors especially where dark areas transition to lighter, colored areas. After inspecting the CMYK channels, it is apparent that the problem lies in the CMYK build created from the underexposed photograph. See attached file for a scan of the "mottled" print-out, and an image of one of the CMYK channels. Again, the composite image looks fine on-screen.

I have tried a few different solutions: duplicating the layer and multiplying over itself, trying different conversion engines when changing from RGB to CMYK, but none of it seems to help.

Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Not working, sorry. Someone else had a problem like that awhile back. I forget what it was (if I recall, it may have been in how they were exporting it... something like there being two different types of .jpgs? perhaps I'm wrong). Anyway, if all else fails, you can upload it to a server and link to it. Again, sorry.

Thanks.
