WinXP, Pent 4, 512, 24 GB free
New install of CS but it is so slow I'm about to go back to PS6.0.
Anti-virus up to date but scanned online anyway - no virii
run adaware, spybot at least weekly and have MS Antispyware - nothing ever found.
I use Mailwasher to preview mail before downloading and never use IE - just Opera or FF.
With only Opera, Mailwasher and PS CS open (Norton running in background) task manager shows about 5% usage until I click on the PS tab to change from Opera or Mailwasher to CS. With the PS file browser open, it immediately jumps to 100% CPU and then runs between 0-100% continually even if the mouse is outside the PS window and no tools are activated.
If I close the PS file browser and click on the PS tab to change from Opera to PS, CPU usage averages only about 5% when PS is active window. But as soon as I activate any tool CPU goes back to 100% and then stays at 100% until I stop using the tool.
Is this normal for CS or could I have set something up wrong in my noob status?

Sounds familiar, I have recently upgraded to CS and have noticed that there is a delay - about 4 seconds- when I click the mouse pointer onto any of the tools before it changes to that tool. The same thing happens when I move the tool over an image. I have a fairly decent PC :- P4 3.2 G / 1G Ram /gigabyte nvidia Geforcefx 5900xt / 75Gig hard drive with 60 Gig free. I think I know what was causing the delay - rather I know how to cure it - if I have keep the file browser open or reduce it then the mouse pointer is slow. But if I close the file browser everything seems fine, even if I have as many as 6 images open at once but I would also like to know if there is any settings other than the cache/ram settings in preferences that need to be altered.
