I have a small problem with the colour of some (but not all) PSD files.
Namely, I am using my monitor-based ICM profile for RGB (came with the monitor) and Euroscale Uncoated2 for CMYK (just selected that to have something). With some PSD files that have been made in Photoshop, the display of those files on my Photoshop at work and other applications (XNView) at home, is different. All systems are Windows. I have uploaded an example file:
http://www.bahamapress.org/andres/3m.zip
That file looks greyish-greenish-blue in XNView and other apps (like using more cyan). When it was made in Photoshop, it was almost greyscale, and when I open it in Photoshop, it still looks almost greyscale.
Other files (not psd) look ok and similar on all systems. When the problematic psd is saved to bitmap in Photoshop, that bmp still is displayed differently.
Can anyone here point out what is the problem? Is it a general monitor profile problem (which I doubt because it appears only in Photoshop) or is it a profile selection problem in Photoshop? I have tried all profiles in Photoshop but I could not get a display similar to XNView or ACDSee. |

Could it be that XNView is not using a color profile?
In PS choose no color management, see what kind of results you get.
One thing you could try, if the file does not need to be edited, is to convert the file to EPS format. It may help.
However, it seems odd to me that you are using an RGB and CMYK profile. One is meant for your monitor the other for printing. You will see differeing results as a ..err result. _________________ Providing small business with high quality affordable websites:

Thanks. I think the question is that colour profiles were indeed used while creating the file in Photoshop, and XNView does not use profiles.
It is interesting though that with Photoshop's soft-proofing I cannot find any profile (even sRGB) that would actually match what I see in XNView and other non-colour aware applications. It seems like the non-colour-profile-aware applications show the image with much more cyan than needed.
The actual picture was not a problem exactly but I just wanted to make sure that such things will not happen again. I have now turned colour management on in Photoshop, using Adobe RGB and Euroscale Uncoated 2, with preservation of embedded profiles, and also soft-proofing on for sRGB. |

Personally I'm of the opinion that using profiles is a problem waiting to happen. I use no color management in any of the images I manipulate. I tend to get consitant results.. well, as consitant as you can using an LCD screen.. _________________ Providing small business with high quality affordable websites:
