This seems to have become the in thing at the moment, not something I have triedso I did a tutorial, and have been messing with some designs.

here is one of them.

my second attempt. The rest are over at Template Magic. I must admit I am getting quite hooked on the subject.

BrideXIII,

Intereting, however there seems to be countless 3d rendering programs that can easily replicate what you are doing, assuming you are doing this all in PS. These programs tend to output this sort of thing faster & easier than PS ever could. Speaking from the point that I Have played in programs such as Bryce, 3D Studio Max , & Litewave.

this is true, but its not about generating them, its about drawing them, as a classically trained artist i enjoy the challenge, i dont want to just click a button and have the programme create the effects for me.

I really like them - especially the first one you posted. Though if I had a gripe, it would be that the planets in the distance look a little too smooth. They should probably have more defined craters in them.

But all in all, they look fantastic :) I have a Photoshop action somewhere called Magrathea that "builds" planets - nice, realistic ones too, complete with mountains, water, clouds and such.
