|
|
I have received some files that I cannot open in Photoshop (CS5) and am told that it is because the files are compressed 4 band RGBIR files. They are very large ( 200MB + ) aerial photograph files that apparently have an infrared band. Has anybody come across this type of file before?
Thanks! |

Thank you jerryb4417 and Auieos. I'm sorry I forgot to mention that the files are all .tif They do have an infrared band. I just found out that they can be opened using a program called irfanview. I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it because it is freeware that has been downloaded 59 million times ( yes 59,000,000 times ! ). It looks like it can import just about ANY file format, so keep it in mind if you are ever stuck with a strange file.
Thank you again for your replies.

hi,
oh definitely yes irfanview is a good general purpose viewer and converter ... another good free one is xnview.....
as far as tiff format just alittle info.....
with tif there several flavors of tiff... and each flavor (variation) generally uses a different compression alogrythm...
now most of your editors will onlyhandle maybe just a half doezen of the most common varations..... but not all... so in your case the varation of tiff you have, ps can'topen .... hense another program is needed to open and convert to a more usable format for ps ...
final note even with jpg... jpg there a couple of variations.... and once in a while i come across a old jpeg that uses a old codex..... and got to use a different program to open convert... |
