I'm curious to see how many designers have knowledge in these areas. I feel that these things are very important for a designer to know or even understand at the least. Even just a base understanding of these areas greatly increases your value as a designer to a company.

Please give the areas/languages you are familiar with and state the degree of your experiance (basic, intermediate, advanced) with them.

  • PHP
  • ASP
  • Databases (MySQL, Sequel 7, etc...)
  • Server Administration
  • HTML/XHTML
  • CSS
  • Javascript
  • Print Design Programs (Quark, Indesign, etc...)
  • Computer Hardware
  • XML
  • Flash
  • Vector Design (Illustrator, Freehand, etc...)
  • Raster Design (Photoshop... duh...)
  • Illustration (real drawing by hand, much like the current digital painting thread)
  • Video Editing (Premiere, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, etc...)

If I missed any let me know.

Ha! I’m embarrassed by how few I know!
(but I’m not really a “designer”…)
A lot of Rastor.
A little Vector.
And just enough Flash to really mess things up.

HTML/XHTML, CSS, Raster Design.

I would say somewhere between basic and intermediate in all. :)

I know enough of all the languages above to heavily modify them but not enough php to write from scratch. I would considure myself a moderate-advanced photoshopuser, and can use illustrater well enough to use it but not well enough to be great at it and make realistic photo images lol. I think that sums me up but I probably missed stuff

Ouch, this thread kinda hurts! Makes me realize that I've got a lot to learn!

Computer hardware-->intermediate

Raster (photoshop)-->intermediate

Unfortunately, with what I use photoshop for, it's more like a business for me, where time is money and money is all about saving time. I don't get to "play around" with photoshop as much as I'd like to, but there again, like a business.....get the customer the highest quality product in the shortest time possible so I can make money.

Oybro, could we possibly add in video editing? There's a ton of video editing programs out there. I'm a beginner with Adobe Premier. Also, probably not much use for sound (audio) editing, huh? I'm also a beginner with Adobe Audition. I know enough to shoot a video job, edit it, edit or overlay audio if needed and burn it to a DVD or save for web use.
