Is there a way I can avoid getting the "gray area" of the feathered edge on this image?

It was fine when the black in Photoshop was CMYK all 100%, but the printer wants the breakdown to be C25, M25, Y15, K100. Now it is giving the "gray area".

I have tried this in both Photoshop and in InDesign. Two different apps, same results.

Instead of cutting out the sausages and leaving them with a feathered edge, place a feathered black frame over the top of the sausages.

*Black frame over the top should have multiply blending mode.
